FAQ: IdeoQuiz Political Ideology Test

Answers to common questions about the IdeoQuiz political test: accuracy, neutrality, privacy, the eight axes, ideology matches, the optional AI report, refunds and more.

About the test

What is IdeoQuiz? A free political test that measures your views on eight axes and matches you to the three closest of 26 political traditions, with in-depth explanations of every axis and tradition.

How long does it take? The Quick test has 60 questions (about 8 minutes). The Full test has 203 questions (about 25 minutes).

Which should I take? Quick is fine for a general picture. Take Full if your Quick result shows close matches, if you want narrower uncertainty ranges, or if you plan to order the in-depth report.

Can I skip questions? Yes. Skipped questions are left out of the calculation instead of being counted as neutral. If you skip many questions on one axis, that axis shows a wider uncertainty range.

Can I go back and change an answer? Yes, at any point before you submit.

Is there a "right" result? No. Every position on every axis is held by thoughtful people. The test describes; it doesn't judge.

Accuracy

How accurate is it? In simulations with synthetic respondents, the Full test identified the intended tradition as the top match 92–98% of the time and within the top three 100% of the time, depending on how noisy the answers were. The Quick test scored 77–94% for the top match and 97–99% for the top three. Simulations test the scoring's internal consistency; they are not the same as validation with real people. See the methodology page.

Why did I get a different result on another test? Different tests use different questions, axes, answer scales and scoring. Small differences are normal. Look for the consistent pattern across tests.

Why did my result change when I retook it? Answers vary with mood, recent events and how you read a question on a given day. Changes of a few points are normal. Larger shifts may reflect real changes in your views.

What does "acquiescence note" mean? If you agreed with statements on both sides of the same axis, your score may partly reflect a tendency to agree. The note suggests reading those answers again.

Neutrality

Is the test biased? We try hard not to be. Questions are worded in both directions, every tradition is described in its own terms and then criticised from several sides, and we never match people to living politicians or current parties. Our method is public so you can check it. If you find something unfair, please report it using the contact form.

Why don't you show which party I match? Parties are coalitions that change. Matching to them turns an educational tool into a partisan one. Traditions are more stable and more useful for understanding ideas.

Why is fascism on the list? Because understanding it matters historically, and political scientists use it as a reference point. Its page is educational and historical, and a match explains that it reflects a few axis positions, not the tradition's history or methods.

Do you take political donations or work for any party? No. IdeoQuiz is independent and isn't affiliated with any party, campaign, government or advocacy group.

Privacy

Do I need an account? No.

What do you store? By default, nothing that identifies you. Your answers are processed to show your result. If you choose to save your result or order a report, we ask for explicit consent and store your answers under a random ID. We don't store your IP address with your answers. Full details are in our privacy policy.

Do you sell my data or use ad trackers? No and no.

Can I delete my result? Yes. Use the delete link on your saved result, or contact us with your result ID.

The optional report

What is the in-depth report? A long, personalised report written by AI from your answers and our knowledge base. It explains each axis with quotes from your answers, explores tensions in your views, compares you with your top three traditions and suggests books.

Is it written by a person? No. It is AI-generated and labelled as such. It is moderated automatically before delivery.

Does it give political advice? No. It never mentions current parties, candidates or elections, and it never tells you how to vote.

How much does it cost, and can I get a refund? Prices are shown before checkout. If the report fails to generate or contains a factual error about our own content, contact us for a correction or refund. Refund requests within 14 days of purchase are handled under our refund policy.

Who handles payment? Payments are processed by our merchant of record, Waffo, which appears on your statement and handles tax and invoicing.

Using results

Can I share my result? Yes. Share cards show your axis shape and top tradition, not your answers.

Can teachers use the test in class? Yes, for discussion. Please let students take it anonymously and never require them to share results.

Can I use someone else's result to label or target them? No. Our acceptable use policy prohibits using results to harass, label, profile or discriminate against anyone.
