Why we built this
Most people's politics don't fit a party or a two-axis chart. We wanted a test that respects that: one that measures more of what actually divides people, explains its method openly, and then helps you learn about the traditions your views resemble, including their best arguments and their strongest critics.
We also wanted a test that is calm. Political conversation online often turns labels into weapons. IdeoQuiz is designed to do the opposite: to describe positions fairly, to treat every tradition in its own terms, and to help people understand why others disagree with them.
What we stand for
- Neutrality. We don't support any party, candidate or cause. We never compare users with living politicians or current parties.
- Transparency. Our scoring formula, ideology reference positions and simulation results are published.
- Depth. Every tradition has a long, carefully sourced guide. Every axis has its own explainer.
- Privacy. Political opinions are sensitive. The test works without an account, and we store nothing identifiable without explicit consent.
- Honesty about limits. We describe what the test can and can't tell you, and we label AI-generated content clearly.
How we're funded
The test and full results are free. We earn money from an optional in-depth report that some users choose to buy. We don't sell data and don't run advertising trackers on test pages. We aren't funded by any political organisation.
How the content is made
Our ideology and axis guides were drafted with AI assistance and then fact-checked against freely available reference works (such as the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Britannica and the sources cited on Wikipedia) and the primary texts named on each page. Our review log records what was checked and changed. We are a small independent project, not an academic institution, and we welcome corrections. The optional report is generated by AI, grounded only in that published content and your answers, and labelled as AI-generated. We review reports flagged by users and update our content when errors are found.
Corrections and feedback
If you think a page misrepresents a tradition, contains an error or seems unfair, please contact us. We read every report and update pages when we're shown to be wrong. Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the page.
Independence
IdeoQuiz is not affiliated with "The Political Compass", 8values, isidewith or any other political test, party or organisation. Names of other tests are used only to describe and compare.
